The need for speed?
You don't do it very often because its so hard. Yes we changed service providers. A call at the door, a signature - easy peasy. Not so fast. First, we have to overcome the reluctance to change. New apps, new interfaces, new remote controls, cloud based services. But we have a 14 day cooling off period so why not?. So we now have a 1Gb fibre Internet service with TV (app) and VoIP. The only major differnce from our old provider is we don't have a STB instead we have a Apple TV streaming box - which is just functioning as an App server to run the Eir App connected directly to the TV via HDMI. And its upscales to 4K TV nice when our old box was just plain 1080 HD. The downsides - you can't record RTE or Virgin One so now we have to think about what player to use for some services. The Eir router (Sagemcom) is a bit 'meh'. Ok its got a stronger wifi signal - but the Wifi already crapped out on us once meaning a reboot. I expect that to happen pretty regularly. So no I'm not switching off my trusty Google Home wifi network just yet. The benefits? 30Eu per month cheaper and now I have two TV boxes rather than one. The (rented) apple TV boxes are great. You can install almost all the apps you need on them and the remote is really simple to use. Oh yes, did I also mention the 1Gb internet speed (giving about 500-600Mb/s when connected via wifi). That's a far cry from the original dial up 9600 bps modems that we all pined for back in the day...
